What Is A Bullet Journal Theme?

If you are new to Bullet Journaling, you might be asking yourself, what is a Bullet Journal theme?

A theme is simply the decoration you want to add to your journal, and it add’s a sense of cohesion amongst different layouts in your journal. For example, you might have one theme for your yearly layouts, and a different theme for each of your monthly layouts. In my 2021 journal, I set a theme for my annual layouts, and no matter where I am inside my notebook, I will use that theme for any layouts that belong to my yearly layouts.

Your theme can add a sense of organization.

But mostly, it is a chance to be creative inside your journal!

Do The Themes Need To Be Complex?

Definitely not!

I do not use my journal to create elaborate works of art. My journal is first and foremost how I get organized in my life and my goals. The creativity is just a little added bonus.

Your themes can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like them to be. The choice is entirely up to you.

And you may even find that this changes each month depending on what you have going on and how much time you have.

How Do I Choose My Theme?

If I am being completely honest, I don’t worry too much about what theme I am going to create. I simply choose one that feels good to me in the moment, and I run with it.

Sometimes my themes include doodles, but there are other times that my theme is simply a colour combination I have put together.

Again, this doe not need to be complicated!

With that being said, I have included a ton of different theme ideas and inspiration here for you!
